Heifer Project ~ An Ark of Hope

St. Veronica School's  Lenten Project goal was to build an Ark of Hope for the Heifer Project.  This goal meant collecting a minimum of $5,000 to buy 2 of every animal that Habitat provides for 3rd world country farm families.  The goal was exceeded by a considerable amount and Habitat representative Gene Gardner presented a plaque to students for the generous donation.

Right to Read Week

Right to Week was celebrated during the week of March 3-7.  This year's theme of Stay Afloat, Read a Flood of Books corresponded with our lenten mission theme.  St. Veronica collected funds for the Heifer Project. Our goal this year was to purchase an ark.  This ark for the Heifer Project includes two of each animal available for donation.  Other right to read week activities included Drop Everything and Read, Guest Readers for the classrooms, Trivia Questions on the PA each day, Zoo Outreach speaker Mike Nicolai from the Cincinnati Zoo, storytellers and Read a T-shirt/animal shirt.  It was a great week of reading fun!

Ice Cream in Less Than a Minute

Every now and then we need an afternoon snack and everyone loves ice cream. This week the 8th grade science class, under the direction of Mr. Keithley, science teacher, studied liquids, solids and gases by making homemade ice cream.  The class used liquid nitrogen to freeze the milk based recipe in less than a minute.  Now that had to be cold!

Annual Spelling Bee

The winner of this year's St. Veronica spelling bee is sixth grade student, Kyle. Kyle's winning word was corporal.  Our runner up is also a sixth grade student, Amani.  Kyle will represent the school in the city round where he hopes to qualify for regional competition.
