Monthly Homework Report Rubrics
Monthly Homework Projects
In January it will be time to begin our first grade projects. Please see below the topics for each month. Time is set aside on the homework calendar to work on the project.
Please take your child through the writing process.
- Have your child read (with assistance if necessary) a children's book about the topic or use a children's encyclopedia about the chosen topic for that month.
- Have your child write the required amount of sentences about the topic.
- Have your child read what he/she has written to you. Edit the sentences and explain the errors and possible improvements.
- Have your child re-write the report making all corrections for the final copy.
The report must be written in the student's own words and best handwriting. Students must be able to comprehend their own writing and read the report clearly to the class. Appropriate questions will be asked of the student after the report is read, ego why the particular inventor was chosen, what did he/she enjoy the most about this inventor.
The following topics enhance and reinforce what is being taught in our classroom. Grades will be given in Language Arts, Handwriting, and in either Science or Social Studies.
The student will choose anyone item from each broad topic every month to do their report. For example, during the month of January, the student needs to choose any inventor, ego Eli Whitney. For February, the student may choose to write about any author, ego Jan Brett.
It is our hope that these reports will give the children a good start toward good writing skills and gathering information. These are skills they will need as they continue their studies here at St. Veronica.
