News - Character Education Awards
St. Veronica School was selected as one of the top 5 Ohio schools in character education. The school received the Emerging School in Character Education award at the Ohio Schools of Character Summit in Columbus, Ohio on September 25, 2008. Sponsors of the summit are Ohio Partners in Character Education and the Ohio Better Business Bureau in partnership with the Ohio Department of Education. Accepting the award on behalf of the faculty and staff were St. Veronica teachers Rebecca Vontsolos and Lex Chitwood.
In addition, St. Veronica was presented the Promising Practice award for its Special Friends Program. This program pairs 1st and 8th grade students for a variety of activities throughout the school year. The purpose of the program is to give eighth grade students opportunities for growth in responsibility and leadership and to provide first grade students support that gives them a sense of belonging as valued members of St. Veronica’s school community and culture.
St. Veronica also won the Character Education Partnership’s National Schools of Character Award for Promising Practices in Character Education. This award will be presented in Washington D.C. during the National Forum on Character Education on October 19, 2009.
