Glossary of Terms
Community of the Faithful: This is a term used in Church documents to refer to a Catholic Parish. We use it in that sense. We also use this term in the sense that we are blessed with members, though not fully joined to the Catholic church who enhance and are a welcomed part of our parish life.
Deep relationship with Christ: The center of our faith is Jesus Christ, and every Christian is called to a deep relationship with Christ. As a Catholic Parish, making Jesus Christ our top priority is an essential value.
Catholic way of life: As a Catholic parish, we value our traditions, the consistency of our faith and values, and the example of life lived in service and sacrifice for others handed on to us by our forebearers in the faith.
Culture of life: This term is taken from the encyclical "The Gospel of Life" by Pope John Paul II. All life is created by God and therefore, all life has dignity and value. Society, in all of its structures, relationships, culture, laws and commerce must uphold, nurture and protect the dignity and value of life - the right to life of the unborn, the right to fair wages, the duty to care for the planet, ethics in business and support of family life. As a Catholic parish, we have an important role in affecting a culture of life in the community.
Religious formation: This term refers to all opportunities afforded to help our membership grow and be formed into disciples of Christ. Religious formation is lifelong and important for all members - children and adults - that they may continue deepening their relationship with Christ.
Actively evangelize: We are called to heed the Gospel that calls us to "go forth and make disciples." Through the example of our lives individually and communally, we witness to others. Through personal invitation and involvement in many activities, we can extend the invitation to others both locally, such as our R.C.I.A. process and universally, such as through our bond with Hands Together in Haiti.
